We treat each new patient with dignity and respect. They have made an important step toward sobriety just by coming to our facility. We expect that new admissions will be intoxicated and have trouble relating to people. Lincoln is a city hospital in an under served community.
It is our public duty to offer immediate and respectful services to every person who comes to this facility. Some people may be referred for in-patient detoxification. Nevertheless it is our responsibility to establish a meaningful and encouraging counseling relationship with every person seeking help at our facility.
The first principle of treatment at Lincoln Recovery Center is safety. Patients need to be welcomed into a calm, sober and tolerant environment. The primary counselor’s first job is to listen to the patient’s story and accept the patient’s life as it is.We have high standards. Lincoln Recovery Center uses daily urine toxicology to provide accurate up-to-date information on the patient’s progress.
This function makes it possible for the counselor to minimize the investigative style of interaction which tends to undermine supportive therapy. Our program is able to use discipline and tolerant acceptance at the same time. However, we must also be flexible and supportive while the patient struggles to meet this goal.
There are 12 step “open” meetings conducted in our facility several times each day. Our patients have easy access to this powerful supportive process during all phases of their treatment. NA and AA also constitute the most important after care support system for patients in our community.
Achieving and maintaining sobriety is primarily the patient’s responsibility. Patients “write” their own letter to the judge by producing negative toxicology reports. We cannot micro-manage patients’ lives. The quality of each patient’s day-to-day participation in the Recovery Center depends on choices made by that particular patient. Our role is to support the patient in making the best possible choices
